Simon Cowell, the man behind X Factor, has recently confirmed that he is finally getting hitched to his long-term girlfriend, 36 year-old Afghanistan-born Mezhgan Hussainy. The engagement was officially announced to the world’s press last week, with the talent show guru’s publicist, Max Clifford, saying “They are very suited. She is someone who is independent and says what she thinks and feels, and he likes that. He’s probably the happiest I have ever known him in the nine years I’ve been working with him.”

The rumours first started flying after the couple, who have been dating for a year, were spotted out with a diamond ring on her finger, and were later confirmed through a joint statement issued by the pair. Whilst the two of them have said that there would be no rush to get married, speculation is high that the wedding will take place sometime this year.

Having reached the grand old age of 50 and never married, many people thought that Simon Cowell would never walk down the aisle with anyone, yet if everything goes to plan, 2010 looks to finally be the year that he proves his critics wrong.
